Turbo Repairs

If your turbocharger has suffered core damage we offer a range of repair options. We can either rebuild your unit plus the cost of the damaged component if applicable or we can fully re-manufacture your turbocharger. Again all our turbochargers are built either to or greater than O.E specification and are balanced using our VSR machines at speeds of over 250,000 RPM.

Oil Starvation Shaft

Oil Starvation

This is one of the most frequent reasons you might need your turbocharger repairing or fully re-manufacturing, Oil starvation is a drop in oil pressure or a delay in oil getting to the turbocharger. A turbochargers shaft can rotate at speeds of 250,000 RPM, so it is very important for oil to lubricate the shaft and bearings, Turbos that have failed due to oil starvation will have failed bearings and can have broken shafts, missing turbine nuts and turned up blades.
We can often tell if a turbocharger has failed due to oil starvation, some of the signs include bearing pick up material on the shaft and heat discolouration.

Oil Contamination

If the engine oil in your vehicle is contaminated it may cause the premature failure of your turbocharger, contamination is particles or debris in your oil supply, these particles score the shaft and bearings as the oil passes between them, this scoring wears away at both components causing them to fail.

Overspeed of Compressor wheel

Overspeed

A turbocharger suffering from an overspeed issue may fail shortly after the issue occurs, it may also fail months down the line, overspeed is where the turbocharger is pushed beyond its designed limits causing the blades to fracture and chip at the ends, and it could be down to a split boost pipe, a sticking EGR/Boost control valve. Its important overspeed is rectified as failure to do so means your next turbocharger may also overspeed.

Our Repair / Re-manufacture Procedure

1

Collect & Inspect

Once the Turbocharger is off the vehicle and boxed securely, we can arrange for a free* collection of your unit. When it arrives with us we then strip and inspect it and contact you with our findings. If your unit has core damage we will quote the re-manufacture cost (alternatively for a rebuild see Turbo Servicing.)

2

Rebuild & Replace

With your permission we will fully service and rebuild your turbocharger, this procedure includes a removal of carbon build up, a replacement of seals and bearings, reassembly of your turbo unit, a re-balance and a flow / quality control test. (upgrades are also available on a range of turbochargers, see Turbo Upgrades.)

3

Warrant & Dispatch

The turbo unit is now ready for dispatch, once payment is received the turbocharger is dispatched on a next working day* delivery. We warrant the item for two years with unlimited mileage. This process usually takes around 3 - 4 working days. bringing your unit in to us and picking if back up can reduce this time.

*Free collection and delivery applies to turbos having work done with us, should customers not want work doing they may be required to pay carriage fees.
